IMPRESSIONISM
“The impressionist artist must not only create great line, tone, form, color balance and composition within a painting, but must pay special attention to the surface of the canvas. The painter must make sure that the viewer scrutinizes the texture of the painting surface with their eyes. Then and only then can the full experience of viewing the painting be truly complete”.
Eric Buechel
INDIRECT PAINTING
Both scumbling and glazing are a big part of my work, which involves multiple layers of pigments mixed with oil and dry pigment layed down after the surface has dryed. With this technique I'm able to achieve surface depth to my paintings.
"I retain from nature a certain sequence and a certain correctness in placing the tones. I study nature so as not to do foolish things, to remain reasonable; however, I don't mind so much whether my colour is exactly the same, so long as it looks beautiful on my canvas-as beautiful as it looks in nature".
